Interested in buying a home? Here are 5 tips from the Firefly team that you should know before you start the process:

1. Schedule a buyer consultation – This is a great time to get to know your agent and be sure you’ve found the right fit. It’s also an important step for your agent to gather information about what you’re looking for in a home so that they can find the perfect match based on your motivations, hopes, dreams and fears – you can’t get that from the internet!
2. Secure financing – Even if you haven’t found a home yet, it’s important to establish a relationship with a lender and start the process to secure financing. Shop around and see who offers the best rates and options for your needs. Your agent will work with your lender to ensure they have everything needed to see you through to closing.
3. Be transparent – your agent and your lender are there to help you no matter what, without judgement. Withholding information about your income or other details could present big obstacles closer to your closing date.
4. Know Your Number – And be prepared to be flexible. It is a competitive market for buyers right now, which means there may be multiple offers on homes that could increase the price. However, it also means sellers might list with a higher price, knowing that they’re willing to accept a lower offer.
5. Give specific feedback. After each showing, let your agent know exactly what you did or didn’t love about the home. This will help them to hone in on what your needs are so that homes that aren’t good matches can be quickly eliminated, making way for the right fit.
